Titanic Town

Location Manager: Sam Breckman
Location: Junction of Cremer St and Hackney Road E2

Even on a Sunday Hackney Road has 1200 vehicles/hour passing through as well as 12 buses scheduled in each direction/hour. The location also straddles the border between two boroughs, Hackney and Tower Hamlets and is close to the Columbia Road Flower market.

Before a road closure could be granted the above factors needed to be addressed. In addition to notices in the local Gazette required by law other measures were taken to ensure the success of the shoot.

  • Two diversions around Hackney Road able to carry the volume of traffic were worked out.

  • London Buses agreed to divert bus routes as, at the suggestion of the FiLM Office, the production offered to run shuttle buses along Hackney Road taking passengers to where regular buses could pick them up.

  • Large advance warning notices were posted along Hackney Road and on all approaches prior to the Sunday before the shoot to advise market traffic of the road closure.

  • 15,000 residents in the immediate area were informed of the closure so that they could plan to avoid the closed section.

In terms of satisfying the logistics of the locality the shoot was deemed as success. As for the film, judge for yourself from the pictures.
