Spooks

Location Manager: Nick Leslie
Location: Finsbury Square Green

A car explosion in the middle of the City was a tricky one. One that involved various Islington departments in the council such as highways; parks; police; emergency services and the film company working together to make it happen. There had to be major consultation in the area so that businesses and residents were aware of what was about to happen.

For the initial preparations, we had to carry out the stunt on the quietest day of the week – (on a Sunday) – this was an integral part for the scene and the location was good for this as Finsbury Square borders the city which is very quiet on weekends.

All emergency Services were informed well in advance and Police presence was obviously important.
On the day, temporary traffic and pedestrian holds were necessary and “safety zones” and barriers implemented for onlookers who were interested in watching the action.

They only had one shot at it, so had to get it right! The SFX team had to ensure that it was a good explosion with the right effect – as you can see, the pictures speak for themselves!

The stunt carried out was a great success and with no major problems and on screen it looked great!Spooks animation
